We Need You at Legislative Visit Day!

It is not too late to register and participate in the most important activity of the year: ACEC Legislative Visit Day. The big day is Wednesday, May 15th, and it is a full day of networking, meals, political engagement, and smoozing.  If you care about the consulting engineering and land surveying industry in California, you don’t want to miss this opportunity. No other event provides us the access and exposure to the politicians that impact our business on a daily basis.

Who doesn’t want a picture with the Governor’s Grizzly Bear? Sierra Chapter members Bob Lokteff, Diane Ogden, Kevin Gustorf and Kathy Wickam did at last year’s Leg Visit Day!

If that is not enough, you also get a behind the scenes look at the Capitol and some great photo opportunities! (see above).

The day kicks-off with a Welcome Breakfast at 7:30 am at the Citizen Hotel. The breakfast will be followed by legislative office visits to the Capitol, a policy luncheon back at the Citizen Hotel and more legislative office visits after lunch. Additionally, ACEC-CA will offer a special “Legislative Training Session” for first and second time attendees. Our day ends with a reception honoring legislators, state officials and staff from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Brasserie Capitale.

April 2019 Meeting Recap – Young Professional Forum

At our April Membership Meeting, we were joined by over 20 young professionals from firms around the region, who had the chance to meet new colleagues and mingle with some seasoned veterans of the engineering, surveying and geotechnical industry.  They also had the pleasure of listening to some wise words and sage advice from a diverse panel of industry professionals.  Our Young Professionals Forum panel included:

· Nancy Walker – Vice President and California Water Market Lead – Kleinfelder
· Lynn Toth, PE – Land Development Engineer – City of Rocklin
· Tom Sell, PE – Vice President – Sage Engineers / Gannett Fleming
· Scott Lillibridge, PE – Assistant Vice President and Sacramento Office Manager – Rick Engineering

Meeting attendees heard from each panel member about some of the challenges they have faced in their career, and what they learned from those experiences.  Each of those experiences and challenges have led them each to achieve great accomplishments in their profession.  The panel members generously shared those experiences with the audience to help guide our up-and-coming professionals.  The panel members provided their perspective on the important qualities, skills and characteristics necessary to build a lasting, rewarding and successful career.  The young professionals had the opportunity to ask questions and engage in a dialogue with our panel members, which I’m sure will help each of them navigate tough decisions down the road.

Public Agency Excellence Awards – Update

There has been some change in plans.  Instead of having Public Agency Excellence Award event in June as originally planned,  the Sierra Chapter Board has decided to combine this event with our Engineering Excellence Award in Fall.

We hope this will make the event more attractive and promote participation of the consulting community and the agencies.  We will announce the winners of the Public Agency Excellence Award before the event.  Our apologies for any inconvenience or disappointment caused by this change. We will keep you posted of the details of the event.  If you have previously submitted a nomination, you do not need to re-submit.
