Joint ACEC/APWA January Meeting Recap –Sacramento County Supervisor Sue Frost

We kicked off the new year with our always popular Joint ACEC/APWA lunch meeting on January10th at the Dante Club.

Our guest speaker was Sacramento County Supervisor Sue Frost who represents the people of the 4th District (the Northern and Western edges of Sacramento County from Rio Linda to Folsom and Rancho Murietta). This was also Darcy Taylor’s first meeting as the Sacramento Chapter’s APWA President. Darcy is with Ghirardelli and Associates.

As always, the turnout was excellent with many Sierra Chapter members in attendance. President Kevin Gustorf sat at the head table with Darcy Taylor. Supervisor Frost showed up right on time and was introduced by Kevin. She jumped right in to describe her fiscal responsibility and motivation to focus energy on Sacramento County health, welfare and infrastructure issues. She also elaborated on the size of the County’s current budget (over $4 Billion) and how little discretionary money is actually available for non-State mandated programs (around 17%). The audience asked about transportation spending and project priorities of which Supervisor Frost described the process the County uses to distribute State and local funds. The bottom-line is there are way more projects than funds, but they do their best to spread the projects around the County equally. Special thanks to Director JD Christiansen for lining up Supervisor Frost as our guest speaker.

As with past Joint Lunch events with APWA, this was a great event to kick off 2020!
