Shannon & Wilson is a full-service, nationally recognized leader in providing geotechnical, geologic, and environmental services.  Since 1954, public agencies, private corporations, and design firms have turned to us for solutions to their most pressing project issues and challenges.  Shannon & Wilson has provide services for design and construction of facilities and infrastructure for the energy, federal, rail, transportation, and water/wastewater market sectors.  Selected local project examples include:

Fanny Bridge Retrofit, Tahoe City, CA

For the Federal Highway Administration, Shannon & Wilson performed a geotechnical study to replace the existing 130-foot bridge along Highway 89 over the Truckee River in Tahoe City, CA. Shannon & Wilson completed a liquefaction assessment for this bridge and a proposed new bridge, south of Fanny Bridge that resulted in significant savings in construction costs.

UPRR 2,568-ft-long bridge over the Yuba River.

Shannon & Wilson performed geotechnical engineering design studies for replacement of approximately one half of the Union Pacific Railroad’s 2,586-foot-long, single-track bridge crossing the Yuba River near Marysville, CA. Borings and CPTs as much as 150 ft deep were performed to evaluate support conditions, seismic considerations, and provide design and construction recommendations for the proposed 4- to 6-ft-diameter shafts needed to support the bridge.

GWRS site at OCSD’s Plant 2 site in Newport Beach, CA

To increase production capacity by 30 million gallons per day, the Orange County Water District (OCWD) is expanding their Groundwater Replenishment System (GWRS). Shannon & Wilson conducted geotechnical and hydrogeologic studies at the site to evaluate foundation support, construction dewatering, and ground improvement mitigation for a diversion structure, a pump station, and two 135-ft-diameter tanks at the northern end of Orange County Sanitation District’s (OCSD) Plant 2 site. Shannon & Wilson evaluated the presence of unmapped splays of the Newport-Inglewood Fault Zone and developed mitigation measures for fault rupture.
