Past Presidents Dinner and Tim Fleming Memorial Scholarship Award Ceremony – February 15 Meeting Recap.

Our sixth Annual Past President’s Dinner and Tim Fleming Memorial Scholarship Award Ceremony was another awesome evening of history and celebration for the Sierra Chapter. On February 15th, your illustrious past presidents were joined by an assortment of members and guests including our Guest Speaker, meteorologist Shane Motley. I thoroughly enjoyed the evening’s pageantry and presentations!

Although the parade of Past Presidents was impressive (16 at last count!), the highlight for me was handing out the Tim Fleming Memorial Scholarship checks to Micaela Robertson of the University of the Pacific and Morgan Wilson of UC Davis (see photo). Both were selected from a large pool of applications and were truly deserving. Susan Fleming Bentley was also in attendance and joined the ceremony. This was the 6th year of the scholarship and very exciting to have two winners. Remembering Tim’s legacy in this way is absolutely a win-win for our Chapter and the schools in our area. Thanks are also due for the California Transportation Foundation (CTF), who administers the scholarship fund.

As interesting as the weather has been in Northern California this year, I don’t think anyone was expecting the dazzling, graphics intensive, presentation we saw from guest speaker, Shane Motley. Shane is a meteorologist with HDR and gave the crowd a healthy dose of facts, data, regression analysis, and outright cool pictures (and video) to show weather trends, patterns and statistics. Shane used all of his TV weatherman skill sets to deliver a very interesting and visually impressive show.

Finally, Past Presidents joined us from all era’s including ACEC-CA, CELSOC and WAELS.  After dinner, we gathered for the ritual “Past President’s Photo” see below. Thanks again to all the Past Presidents, Shane Motley, and our scholarship winners for making this one of the best events in many years!
