April Speaker – Mr. Cyrus Abhar, City of Rancho Cordova, Public Works Director

The Sierra Chapter is pleased to welcome Mr. Cyrus Abhar, Public Works Director, City Engineer and the Chief Building Official for the City of Rancho Cordova as the speaker for our April meeting. Mr. Abhar has 30 years of experience in civil engineering, public works administration, and business management. He is responsible for directing and managing the City’s municipal and engineering services including transportation planning and design, drainage and floodplain management, capital improvement program, transportation operation and maintenance, solid waste, facilities management, building safety and inspection, and construction management and quality assurance. In 2010, he was recognized as the “Manager of the Year” by the American Public Works Association (APWA).

Prior to his service at the City of Rancho Cordova, Mr. Abhar worked as the managing partner of a private construction firm. Mr. Abhar worked for Sacramento County from 1991 to 2001 where he began his career as a project manager in the Department of Transportation. He was later assigned to the operations and maintenance division where he last served as the Division Chief.

Mr. Abhar worked for several engineering consulting firms as a project manager for land development and transportation projects in Texas and California from 1981 to 1991.
