Kjeldsen, Sinnock & Neudeck, Inc. is honored to announce that our own Elizabeth Avelar has been selected as one of only five engineers in the nation to receive the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) Young Professional of the Year Award.

ACEC’s Young Professional of the Year Award recognizes the accomplishments of young engineers by highlighting their contributions to the engineering profession, their commitment to improving their communities, and their positive impact on our society. The Award strives to enhance and improve the image of the engineering profession by recognizing these young, diverse and talented engineers, and by promoting engineering as an exciting and inclusive profession that is accessible to everyone.

Elizabeth embodies all of these attributes.  She is very passionate about helping young students envision a future career for themselves in engineering, and she has played a key role in expanding the KSN footprint into the Sacramento Valley through her work on numerous local flood emergency response planning and preparation projects.

Elizabeth was the first in her family to attend a four year university, graduating from the University of the Pacific with not only a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, but also a Master of Science degree in Engineering Science with a concentration in Water Resources.  Elizabeth recently became a registered Civil Engineer in the State of California.

Elizabeth stays busy as an active member of the American Society of Civil Engineers; the Society of Women Engineers where she assists the scholarship committee; serves Pacific’s MEP (MESA Engineering Program) Alumni Advisor; and the Floodplain Management Association. In her free time, she enjoys photography, spending time with her family and dachshunds Hank and Herbert, and participating in runs for a cause.

In October, Elizabeth will be officially recognized and receive her award at the ACEC Fall Conference in Orlando, Florida.
