President’s Message

dana-remingtonBy the time you read this, Halloween will be over except for the reminder of the added weight from all the candy we’re told not eat.  And the election to end all elections will be coming to a close. We can only hope that future candidates look back on this election and make a decision to not only be professional and qualified for the office they choose to run for, but keep in mind the importance of their future constituents.

The beginning of November brings a time of change and usually the end of pleasant temperatures. We start to feel the effects of the rain and colder temperatures and if you’re a Game of Thrones fan “Winter is Here”. I have no idea what exactly that means, but my wife tells me to get with the times.  All I know is that my golf game will suffer over the next several months unless I take a trip to warmer climates.

Our next meeting will be a dinner meeting on November 16th at the Hilton Sacramento West with Sergio Escobar (DWR) as guest speaker.  His topic of speech will be on the California Water Fix project which was previously known as the Bay Delta Conveyance project. In addition to a great speaker, we will have a presentation by theCitrus Circuits Robotics Team at the beginning of the meeting. Citrus Circuits is based in Davis and is open to all high school students in the Davis area. The team encourages STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) education in the community. They finished in first place at the 2016 World Champions in Robotics Competition which they’re working towards repeating in 2017.

There will not be a chapter meeting during the month of December so be sure to watch for the December edition of the monthly newsletter for some light hearted reading. After the upcoming November 16, 2016 meeting, the next Sierra Chapter General Membership Meeting will be our Annual Joint Lunch Meeting with APWA on January 6, 2017 which is the first Friday in January.  The location has not yet been determined. APWA has held their lunch meetings at the Red Lion Woodlake for a number of years, but Red Lion has unexpectedly decided to close the facility next month for renovations. February will be our 5th Annual Past Presidents and Tim Fleming’s Scholarship Award Dinner and should be on everybody’s calendar.  This event launches the new calendar year and is a good opportunity to catch up with most of the past presidents and hear their stories from the good old days. Any of the Sierra Chapter lunches or dinners is a good time to bring your favorite young engineer for a chance to interact and enjoy our camaraderie.
