Tom Zlotkowski, Executive Director, Capital SouthEast Connector JPA, May Meeting Speaker

tom_zlotkowskiTom Zlotkowski, Executive Director of the Capital SouthEast Connector JPA gave a great presentation about the Connector Project at our May 21st dinner meeting. Tom provided an overview of the 35-mile-long project, summarized the history and current status of the project, and the timeline for the various project phases. Tom’s enthusiasm for the project was apparent, and as a big promoter of the project, he discussed the challenges faced moving the project forward to reality. Challenges include funding, working toward consensus among the JPA, gaining support of the largely rural community along the propose alignment, and environmental review. Tom also discussed procurement options, including design-build and P3.

Tom was not shy about sharing his views and expressed a note of dismay about the difficulties of gaining political support for the project, which would create jobs, reduce auto emissions, and catalyze investment. The audience was very interested in the project and asked numerous question about aspects and opportunities associated with the project. Best wishes to Tom moving the ball across the goal line!
