February Meeting Recap, Past President’s and Tim Fleming Scholarship Award Dinner

kevin_payneOur February Past President’s Dinner and General Meeting went well with many of our past presidents in attendance as well as Sue Fleming, who came to present the first Scholarship Award in honor of her late husband, Tim Fleming.

Our guest speaker, Kevin Payne, Assistant Director of the Roseville Planning Redevelopment Department discussed the recent changes to  & the Redevelopment Department and the formation of the Roseville Community Development Corporation (RCDC).  It is the role of RCDC on improving the Roseville community through strategic real estate investment and capital improvements.  RCDC also has the ability to provide business financing to those companies wishing to invest in downtown Roseville.  Kevin also discussed short term and long term infrastructure projects and improvements within the Riverside Gateway and the Downtown Specific Plans.

For the last few years, the Sierra Chapter has been proud to sponsor the robotics team Phoentrix, a group of high school students from the Folsom/El Dorado Hills area who are interested in science and technology. Last June, they participated in the National Championships of FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology). They provided a short demonstration with their robot before the dinner meeting, and explained the tasks their robot was required to perform for the competition.
